Application Process

​If you are able to apply online, The Social Security Administration has a user-friendly website at SSA.gov. I included a summary of part of the application process below for informational purposes only. Each case is different and you should contact your attorney or the Social Security Administration for your specific case. If you do not have an attorney, you can call me directly at (800) 580-7432 to discuss your case. The consultation is free and if I decide to take your case, my office is only paid if your case is successful.

As mentioned, the Social Security Administration (or “SSA”) now allows for online applications for Social Security Disability benefits by going to: www.socialsecurity.gov/applyfordisability.

You can also apply for SSI benefits online by going to: www.socialsecurity.gov/pgm/ssi.htm.

You can still apply for benefits in person by visiting a local Social Security office. Call (800) 772-1213 to apply online or to make an appointment at a local SSA office. If you are deaf or hard of hearing, call the SSA TTY number: (800) 325-0778. If you have difficulty reading text online, or have a learning disability, you can utilize BrowseAloud for free. The SSA estimates the initial application to take between 10 and 30 minutes and there are required documents and specific forms required to complete the application.

​Statistics show that a majority of initial applications are denied. You have sixty (60) days to ask for reconsideration of the denial. If your application is denied again after you ask for reconsideration,
